Lamborghini Squadra Corse has unveiled its new Urus ST-X Concept, a track-focused version of the Italian-marque’s first Super SUV.
According to the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based supercar manufacturer, this concept has been developed for a new single-brand championship, combining both a race circuit and an off-road track. This new format is set to be launched in Europe and the Middle East come 2020, with events taking place on “specially prepared” FIA-approved circuits.
Lamborghini says it aims to give customers the complete experience by offering both vehicle and technical support during races. All they have to do, the automaker says, is “arrive and drive”.
The production model’s 4,0-litre twin-turbo V8 is unchanged in the ST-X Concept, and continues to deliver 478 kW and 850 N.m of torque to all four corners. However, according to Lamborghini, the concept is some 25 percent (550 kg) lighter. That means this concept, seen here in Verde Mantis livery, now tips the scales at 1 650 kg. To put this in perspective, the BMW M2 Competition weights only 10 kg less, according to our own figures.
The SUV rides on 21-inch single-nut aluminium alloys wrapped in Pirelli tyres and is equipped with a carbon-fibre bonnet, larger air intakes and an integrated steel roll-cage that provides torsional stiffening. A fire-suppression system and FT3 fuel tank have been fitted to ensure driver safety. At the rear, a roof-mounted spoiler and racing exhausts (featuring a revised hexagonal design) can be seen.
This race-bred Urus ST-X Concept is set to make its track debut during the 2019 Lamborghini World Finals.
